Life Experience

November 18, 2008 –

Life is an interesting and funny thing, dont you find?  Recent events in my life have made me question all sorts of things.  But strangely enough I am remarkably calm about them.  Sometimes you go through life thinking well, I am not as wise as that guru in that book or I cant come up with a quote like that, no way, not ever.  But then, when you are faced with an almost impossible situation, hey presto.  It is as clear as day. You dont have to think about it. You just know.  Being of the Libran band of lovelies, decisions do not come easy for us. We weigh everything up and down, inside out, backwards and forwards. It is torture, how we suffer - I jest.  So I find, for the first time in my life, making a major decision without weighing up the pros (pardon the pun) and the cons, and the ins and the outs was easy, you just follow your heart.   Ohh I feel as though I have grown.  So I am remarkably relaxed and on an even keel about it all.  Sometimes you just astound yourself, dont you? Am I a wise woman now? :)

Do bats have bollocks?

November 17, 2008 –

Mr A sent me an email today.  He said that he was sure my quirky sense of humour would be tickled by the following two books.  ‘Do Ants have arseholes? and 101 other bloody ridiculous questions’ by Jon Butler and Bruno Vincent and by the same authors, ‘Do bats have bollocks? and 101 more utterly stupid questions’ Hahahaha - Mr A was right!  That did tickle me and giggling like a schoolgirl, I marched straight over to Amazon to check them out :) Do you know what?  I think you fellas know me better than anyone.  My loved ones wouldnt dream of popping that into my Christmas stocking, but what a fab little gift that would be - not hinting hehe.  Talking of books, have you seen my latest gizmo?  Look to the right, down a bit, yes thats it.  (I think you can only see it in explorer) Actually its called a widget, listen to me sounding all technical and erudite.  Ive been having a lot of fun with it and have placed within it lots of lovely books that I think you gents and of course ladies would like.  Obviously diaries of various callgirls, plus some other ones;  erotica, how to pleasure a lady, a handbook for all you budding male escorts ;), food for seduction and even one or two about the nectar of the gods - champagne,  I even managed to squeeze some golf books in there - see how good I am to you?  Take a look, oh and I will be adding to it all the time, whenever I see a book/cd/dvd that I think may tickle your fancy :)

Marilyn in Stockings & Suspenders

November 14, 2008 –

Well, I am off to London on tour next Thursday.  Oh I am looking forward to it!  Lots and lots to do while I am there and I am going to be such a busy little bee that I have had to cancel lunch with the ‘ladies’.  Now, I find out about this exhibition that will only be on for a short while and I really want to see it!

It’s of the Travilla collection - William Travilla - who preferred to be called simply Travilla - became famous for his outfits that helped Monroe achieve global stardom and it includes this photograph which has never been seen before.  Marilyn in stockings and suspenders.

The costumes he designed for Marilyn  included the white dress worn by the world’s best known blonde in The Seven Year Itch and the pink satin dress she wore in Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.

Now Travilla’s collection is being shown on board the HMS President 1918, a floating conference and exhibition centre on the Victoria Embankment, before it is returned to America.

As I mentioned It includes the photograph of the designer dressing Monroe, which she signed: “Hey Billy, Thank you for all the many wonderful things you made me. Love, Marilyn X X.”

Travilla dressed Monroe in eight of her films. He helped dress some 270 actors and actresses in total, including Paul Newman, Errol Flynn, Joan Crawford, Lauren Bacall, Sidney Poitier and Judy Garland.

He was also a key hand in setting the sartorial tone of the series, Dallas. He died in 1990, aged 70, after a career spanning half a century.

Hmm, perhaps I can get a later train home?…

George Carlin

November 13, 2008 –

I love George Carlin.  I was initiated into the mirthful but profound world of Mr Carlin whilst backpacking around Australia, in the back of a VW, (banish those filthy thoughts immediately! - but save them for when you come to see me ;)  listening to one of his hilarious cds.  We laughed so much, we couldn’t stand up.  Oh that was a lovely day, watching dolphins play in the surf etc etc ….  happy, happy days.   So, whilst thundering around the net, I was thrilled, nay overjoyed to find this little gem.  Pure George this is… (he is referring of course to the US where prostitution is illegal, not so in the UK)

“I don’t understand why prostitution is illegal. Selling is legal, fucking is legal. So why isn’t it legal to sell fucking? Why should it be illegal to sell something that’s legal to give away? I can’t follow the logic. Of all the things you can to do a person, giving them an orgasm is hardly the worst. In the army they give you a medal for killing people; in civilian life you go to jail for giving them orgasms. Am I missing something?” - George Carlin

I was sad to hear that George passed away in June this year.  I only found out today whilst doing a little bit of research for this post.  A good life?  I think so, he made an awful lot of people happy, just like us ‘ladies’ do :)  He would have loved to be put on a blog like this.  George, here’s to you baby.

Famous Courtesans Part 2 - The Empress Theodora

November 12, 2008 –

This is a great story…

Theodora was the wife of Justinian I who was crowned Emperor of the Byzantine Empire in 527 AD. As his wife, she ruled by his side, as his partner, and her intelligence helped to advance the Empire.

The exact place of her birth has not been agreed upon. While some historians say she was born on the island of Crete off the coast of Greece, others speculate that she might have been born in Syria. Whichever the case, she was brought up as the daughter of a bear trainer who worked at the Hippodrome (a huge stadium-like circus), in Constantinople. She worked there as a mime, and later as a full time actress. At the time, acting was not a highly esteemed occupation especially for women. While on stage she was remembered for her daring entertainment skills, off stage however, she lived a normal youthful life and was most remembered for her wild parties.

At the age of 16, she traveled to northern Africa as the companion of an official. (A Courtesan) She stayed there for 4 years before returning to Constantinople. She stopped by Alexandria, the capital of Egypt and here she adopted Monophysitism. This was a form of Christianity that believed that Jesus Christ was wholly divine and not both human and divine as was the orthodox Christian belief. Monophysites were thus not liked by orthodox Christians since their teachings did not conform to those of the orthodox church. On conversion to Monophysitism, she gave up her former lifestyle, and upon reaching Constantinople in 522, settled down as a wool spinner in a house near the palace of the Emperor. It was while in this humble lifestyle, at the age of 20, that she drew the attention of Justinian, then a government official.

Theodora was not only beautiful, but intelligent, witty and amusing, which is perhaps why she won Justinian’s love so much that he appealed against an old Roman law that forbade officials from marrying actresses in order to marry her. Justinian and Theodora were married in 525. In 527, Justin, the emperor of Byzantium, and Justinian’s father died. The couple assumed control of the Empire and were crowned Emperor and Empress on 4th April of that same year. They ruled unofficially as joint monarchs with Justinian allowing Theodora to share his throne and take active part in decision making.

Throughout her life, Theodora and Justinian transformed the city of Constantinople, building it into a city that for many centuries was known as one of the most wonderful cities in the world. They built aqueducts, bridges, and more than 25 churches, the most significant of these being the Hagia Sophia - ‘Church of Holy Wisdom’. To women, Theodora may well be considered a noble pioneer of the women’s liberation movement. She passed on laws prohibiting forced prostitution and established homes for prostitutes, passed rights that granted women more rights in divorce cases, instituted the death penalty for rape and established laws allowing women to own and inherit property. She also provided safe shelter for Monophysite leaders who faced opposition from the majority orthodox Christians, even though her husband Justinian was an orthodox Christian.

Empress Theodora died on 28th June, 548. Her body was buried in the Church of the Holy Apostle, one of the splendid churches that she and Justinian had built in Constantinople. Beautiful mosaics in Empress Theodora’s remembrance exist to this day at the Church of San Vitale at Ravenna in Northern Italy (see pic above). Even after her death, her spirit lived on, and in this way she was able to have influence on the Empire. Through what she had begun, Justinian was able to bring harmony between the Monophysites and the Orthodox Christians, and the status of women in the Byzantine Empire was elevated high above that of the women in the Middle East and Europe.

Bed Time Reading

November 10, 2008 –

Mr M has just sent me a couple of books, well one is actually a magazine - The Erotic Review.  It’s been around for years and is a saucy read in a nice erotica way.  The other one is ‘The Illustrated Book of Orgies’ - what are you trying to say Mr M? hehehe.  Great pics in both of them, from throughout history and cultures - most far too naughty to put on here,  unfortunately.  I shall peruse them both in depth tonight.  Definitely bedtime reading I would say ;) Thanks Mr M, you spoil me! xxx

Oh and while I am on the subject of spoiling, spoiling you this time.  I have found a place that makes bespoke lingerie.  I often get asked for specific bits and pieces, particularly quarter cup bras, you know the sort;  it  barely covers the bottom half of your boobs so that when you wear a blouse it looks like you havent got a bra on?  Well, what a nightmare I had trying to find a) one in my size and b) a matching set (with of course the suspenders).  So I have them now, handmade for me and hideously expensive they were too.  I bet no one asks for them anymore now :(

PS I dont know why the top of the pic has been chopped off!? But if you click on it you will see it in it’s entirety - and why is the gent being sick?? Deary me! :)
