Foodies & Fests

August 17, 2008 –

I managed to get to the Plymouth Flavour Fest today, that’s a farmer’s market to you and I :)  It also had some well-known chefs doing demonstrations but I never got to see them, shame as one was from one of my favourite restuarants.  It was lovely – just my kind of day out – fabulous locally produced products such as duck burgers, oysters from Bigbury Bay, olives, olives and more juicy olives (not sure if they were produced here but I shall not be pedantic), venison, lush handmade sausages from cornwall and some delicious drinkies (I went for the non-alcoholic variety this time :) and yes I did get you something… how about an iced Earl Grey tea with citrus bergamia?  No?  Ok, I got some other things I know you will like.  I know a lot of my gents are foodies/gourmets/experts in all things delicious and so I did stock up on some very nice things – see how I look after you? Ohh, I also bought some home made salmon cakes with cracked black pepper and lemon (you know who you are :)  I spent a small fortune but I do like to support small local businesses and especially fantastic local food and drink producing ones and of course keep my fellas happy and pampered :)  Memo to Mr A – your homemade bread would go down a treat there darling.

Actually food of the gourmet variety and all things luxurious has been a bit of a theme this week.  Now, I shan’t tell you what fabulous place I was whisked off to (and the food was more than sublime) … it is featured on one of my favourite websites.  http://www.relaischateaux.com/en/ Do you think I could acheive my mission of staying at all of the places there during my lifetime?  I can’t think of anything more heavenly and yes you are spoiling me but I like it!   This website is listed on my site but it is kind of tucked away on the recommended hotels and restaurants page (which you will find on the service page), too long-winded?…  or you can go straight to it here.  Soooo, obviously I am sometimes lucky enough to get treated to a very special hotel.  These beautiful places are usually very intimate (just like me!) and so once I have been with a gent, I don’t go back again without him for at least for a couple of years,  if ever.  Staff do talk you know and I am Miss Discretion! xx

Oh, and there’s more.  I read about the world’s hottest chilli the other day.  It was not the one I thought it was, but reading this article, I think there is a competition to out-heat the last chilli.   It is….. The Dorset Naga.  Is it only me who thinks that name is odd?  I expected the name enchlaticatas muchos spicioto or something similar (I made that up! haha) and all things chilli to come from spicy South America or at least have a South American name. Ok, a little about this hot baby (pic to the left). Lethal effects include burning eyes, streaming nose, uncontrollable hiccups and much much worse.  (How much worse?  We need to know these things!).  Ok the Naga racks up an amazing 1.6 million Scoville units – the measure of chilli heat – more than twice the tally of the former record holder, The Red Savina.  To put this into context, Tabasco sauce is a mere 8,000.   I am not a lover of really hot food but I know some of you guys are – enjoy!  (phew!)

Talking of hot stuff,  I bought a new black basque  ;)  - I know, I know – I said that was it for a little while but it looked sooo good on ……
