Back in Plymouth!

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

plymouth-escort-in-londonHello!, Yes I am back in the land of the cream tea and the oggie.  London was fab.  I had a lovely time.  After the drama of the changed hotels, I am happy to report that the final hotel I stayed in was quite, quite wonderful  They upgraded me not one level but two!  So happiness did abound :) When I arrived there were a whole bunch of paparazzi outside the entrance. ’Oh no, dear God, not again I thought’  ‘Will they ever leave me alone?’  Just a cursory glance at me told them all they wanted to know.  ‘Nope, not famous, she’s carrying an M&S sandwich bag for Chrissakes!,  ignore’  :)   Good, that pleases me.  I would hate to be famous.  I value and enjoy my privacy too much.

I did something I vowed I would never do.  Go on the tube.  I havent been ‘down there’ for quite a few years.  I dont like it.  Its claustrophobic, dirty, crowded and smells, and thats just the ticket section.  No, I figured a while ago that I dont get to London that often and so I would forfeit the tube in lieu of the Great British cabbie when I make one of my bi-yearly jaunts.  And besides, if I was meant to go underground I would have been born a mole with great spade like hands, wouldnt I?   So, a grave error found me on the underground yesterday.  It wasnt too bad, but I dont want to do it again very soon.  Please dont make me!

I went to see this; Here’s something you need to check out http://www.visitlondon.com/bodyworlds/ its an exhibition at the O2 and it is incredible.  Sounds a little morbid in that it has exhibits of dissected human bodies that have undergone the process of plastination – but it is done very respectfully, with the ethos of celebrating the miracle of life and the human body;  and the people who have donated their bodies?, I think would be very happy with the resulting, well, its artistry really. It is totally fascinating, take a look. I also managed to get a morning at the British Museum which was also very enlightening.  What a culture vulture I was!

So, I will be here in Plymouth for a little while now, give me a call and we can talk about the smashing weather we are having :)  Have a great bank holiday folks xxx

PS.  Apologies to everyone who tried to get in touch via email.  A super hotel it may have been but the broadband reception was rubbish.

What’s in a Room?

Friday, May 8th, 2009

london-escortI made a mistake.  I went to book my London tour accommodation in a rush and used one of those sites where you pick an area and date etc and get the rate reduced.  I have done this a few times and come away with decent enough 5 star hotels for 50 pence a night (I am jesting!!).  You wont get your Ritz or Raffles but on the whole they are fine.  This time, I ended up with a hotel a bit off the beaten track.  I didnt like the look of it.  Tough, they said on the phone, its been paid for and that the deal.  Fair enough I said.  I ruminated for a few days, sat in the hairdressers, not for a few days although it felt like it  (plenty of time to mull things over in there) and decided hell no.  I will waste (I cringe at that word, I hate waste) the money and re-book another hotel.  A proper one.  A 5 star one, a famous one.  Its nice.  You will like it.  Its one of the leading hotels in the world. See you in London, I hope x

PS   HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR A!

Happy St George’s Day! & London Tour

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

english-escortI told you I wouldn’t forget this year didn’t I?  Happy St George’s Day one and all!

And did those feet in ancient time

Walk upon England’s mountains green:

And was the holy Lamb of God

On England’s pleasant pastures seen!

And did the countenance divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

And was Jerusalem builded here,

Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:

Bring me my Arrows of desire:

Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!

Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,

Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:

Till we have built Jerusalem,

In England’s green & pleasant Land.

La la la la – do you feel a stirring?  I do!

Oh and before I forget, I am touring  London in May – 21st, 22nd and 23rd.  Getting booked up fast, so please contact me asap if you would like to see me x     More info here

Back in Plymouth

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Yes, am back safe and sound.  Phew, what an action packed few days I have had.  I managed to get most things done and even squeezed in a little sightseeing too.  I popped into Madam Tussauds, thats expensive isnt it?!!  £25 to see some wax models.  I only had an hour to do it but managed to buzz around and see everything.  Some naughty boys tried to scare me in the house of horrors – purleeze!   Still, some of the wax works were incredible – the Winston Churchill one for instance was scarily real, even down to the little thread veins on his cheeks – yes I did get that close!,  but some were not that good in a  ’Dont be silly!’ kind of way.  I’ll tell you what was nice, my hotel overlooked the house of commons and big ben.  I could see him from my window and it was very surreal to hear the chimes on the hour, after hearing them for so many years on News at Ten. Half of me expected to see that lovely Trevor McDonald come out of my bathroom with the news :)

I was treated to a lovely champagne flight on the London Eye, a fab, fab Michelin star dinner and a hilarious show by the name of Le Clique at the London Hippodrome.  (My profuse thanks once again, sexy. You know who you are x)  I wanted to put a link here for the show so you could a get a feel for it (as it were ;) but I left the programme on the train (doh!) and cant seem to find a direct link on t’internet.

Anyway, it was burlesque meets the circus meets comedy  – excellent!  My favourite was Miss Behave, a totally naughty girl :)  ( I loved her) and there was a rather fine boy doing a male burlesque routine in a bath tub – I am more than sure he is/will be a gay icon.  Going back to the train though, we got delayed at Exeter because we had to wait for the police to escort some rather loud and intoxicated young scallywags off, that’ll be the same ones that the buffet car was happily supplying copious amounts of booze to for hours then.  Hmmm.  So back in Plymouth until my January tour in Bath.  (27/28) It’s nice to go away but its nice to get home too :) Now, just how much did you miss me? x

Marilyn in Stockings & Suspenders

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Well, I am off to London on tour next Thursday.  Oh I am looking forward to it!  Lots and lots to do while I am there and I am going to be such a busy little bee that I have had to cancel lunch with the ‘ladies’.  Now, I find out about this exhibition that will only be on for a short while and I really want to see it!

It’s of the Travilla collection – William Travilla – who preferred to be called simply Travilla – became famous for his outfits that helped Monroe achieve global stardom and it includes this photograph which has never been seen before.  Marilyn in stockings and suspenders.

The costumes he designed for Marilyn  included the white dress worn by the world’s best known blonde in The Seven Year Itch and the pink satin dress she wore in Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.

Now Travilla’s collection is being shown on board the HMS President 1918, a floating conference and exhibition centre on the Victoria Embankment, before it is returned to America.

As I mentioned It includes the photograph of the designer dressing Monroe, which she signed: “Hey Billy, Thank you for all the many wonderful things you made me. Love, Marilyn X X.”

Travilla dressed Monroe in eight of her films. He helped dress some 270 actors and actresses in total, including Paul Newman, Errol Flynn, Joan Crawford, Lauren Bacall, Sidney Poitier and Judy Garland.

He was also a key hand in setting the sartorial tone of the series, Dallas. He died in 1990, aged 70, after a career spanning half a century.

Hmm, perhaps I can get a later train home?…
