Well Mr x is a bit of an authority on champagne (how goddamn sexy is that??) and brought the most delicious champagne to join the one I had got for our dinner.  You see, Mr x is of the opinion that the smaller champagne houses are usually far superior than the larger ones with big marketing budgets,  and do you know? I cant argue with him right now because, as I said, the one he produced was splendid, fabulous.  I had one too, a rose from a smaller house that was recommended to me and I could only get it at Fortnums.  Stunning it was too.

So you also know about my little collection?  The metal tops of champagnes that I have sipped?  Here’s the post. Well, Ive got two new tops for my collection tonight,  hence  the ‘fill my box’ quip.  Oh you had to be there.

I am now sending  you the menu of what we will be dining on (for those of you who have booked my lunch or dinner dates here)  Does that sound like I have aspirations to be a chef?   Oh no, no, no!  I just want everything to be perfect for you.  I love  (no, really) love to look after you. Is that  OTT?  Humour me darling :)   Do you know, I think I was brought up to be like this, my whole family are perfect hosts and hostesses.  Anyway, here’s a flavour, pardon the pun;  a couple of dinners recently.  Of course it takes more time and effort than just getting ready for a dinner date out (I love those too!), but you’re worth it, arent you?  Oh and the wines and champagne;  I want to get to a point where we try a different wine with each course, pairings that are perfect, Im about to go on a course.  And now I really must be off, I have fancy pants to throw in a bag :)

Just tell me what you like and I will get it. If tea is not your thing (I personally dont drink tea or coffee), well we can always fall back on the old favourite, champagne! I cant recall where I first read that, or indeed when,  and I would love to attribute that to myself but alas I cant.  Its a thoughtful and thought provoking sentence and sentiment and I like it.

Well last week and thus far, I have yet again been honoured with the most lovely of gents.  Really, you guys are too kind and special, how lucky can one girl get?  You always send me a thank you, but I thank you too.

The ‘tops’ part comes from my discussion with the very sexy Mr D.  Now, I am not a collector of anything really.  I hate clutter, ornaments, that sort of thing.  Give me a nice vase of white lillies and some divine scented candles and I am a happy bunny.  But, I became a collector last year.  Whilst touring around the Champagne area of France, I bought a rather wonderful case which is specifically made for collecting the metal tops from champagne bottles.  You know, the ones under the cage on top of the cork.  They are all different, well most are, and they tell a story too.  I have been building on my collection and I only ever collect the ones I have had the bottle of and only one from each house or each style – in the case of my favourite Veuve Cliquot, I have the non vintage, the vintage and even though I have tasted the Grand Dame, I dont have the top yet – one for the near future methinks.  I have 26 now but there are many, many layers in the case; someone has to do it, and it reminds me of what I have had and helps me plan what I have yet to taste :)

Puds – dont get excited but I made a decent pud. I did!  Yes, it wasnt a cake or anything crazy like that.  It was a recipe I found in the Sunday Telegraph and it was a trifle.  Not just any old trifle though.  A rather fine and delectable trifle for grown ups. Strawberries soaked in red wine with basil; layers of madeira cake and lemon curd, mascarpone and whipped cream.  I served it in a gorgeous wide cocktail glass and Mr D, who is a pud lover, more than loved it,  he scoffed mine too :)  Im getting there (but I did have an ice cream sundae as back-up ;)   Hehe, happy days…

Anyway, I am delighted to inform Mr A that I have used said honey – not all of it – some of it.  On some cocktail sausages that I thought would be rather fun as one of a trio of canapes. (menage a trois?)  Organic baby sausages marinated, nay – drenched, fondled and kissed  in (yes) Cornish honey, sesame oil and soy sauce.  Oh my word, delicious.  Thank you Mr A, lovely fella that you are xxx

On a side note, I was once offered a platter of cocktail sausages.  It was whilst I was the guest of an Australian Captain of a frigate in another life;  a cocktail party on the ship.  He said ‘ Would you care for  a smally boy, Rhia?…’  glancing at the sausages but with an extremely naughty twinkle in his eye.  I said….

Now then, on a very different note, there is something  that you should know about me…

I am rubbish at making puddings.  Shameful really.  I am not too bad at the savouries but the finale is usually bought in.  Sorry. (You know I am talking about my dinners and lunches, right?)

Anyway, I have found a solution, I shall be the queen of the ice cream sundaes!  Yes, I can do this. I have already started researching and practising, and one (willing) guinea pig (may I call you that, Mr?) has told me it was fab.  So thats it, you will get that, a super, duper ice cream sundae as your pud in future.  Oh my word, there is whipped cream, juicy english strawberries, dripping chocolate sauce and chopped nuts (dont be scared honey :) Yum, yum, lick, lick ;)

I have heard that the best ice cream sundaes in London can be found at Fortnum and Masons but not for long, soon it will be at the Chateau Rhia, count on it ;)

It certainly makes one feel happier, brighter and yes sunnier :)  I had my first Pimms party last night, at a friends house.  Summer isnt summer without Pimms and funnily enough I cant drink it unless the weather is good.  All psychological I know but it makes it all the more enjoyable if you only have it occassionally. (That doesnt include champagne of course as it has been proven that a lack of champagne can lead to all sorts of medical conditions like moroseness and mundanititis :)

You know what I am like for my Michelin Starred Restaurants and this one, well it has taken my top spot… for now.  My previous favourite was Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon;  actually its probably on a par with Le Gavroche.  My least favourite was one in Venice, can’t remember the name now but I remember it had a separate water menu – some may call that pretentious :)  Actually, the best food I had in Venice was in a tiny backstreet bistro that had no menu, they just told you what they had caught that morning (a fish restaurant) and what they were going to do with it – it – was- sublime, orgasmic even.

Have you been watching Masterchef this year?  I adore it, always watch it when I can and am going to get the cookbook this time round and try my hand at a few recipes. Dont ask me for them yet though, I need to try and perfect them!  Back to Masterchef, these guys are utterly fab and when they progress through the series and get to cook at some of the best restaurants in the world, well you get to see the work and supreme detail that goes into each dish.  Beautiful, elegant food. They are truly artistes, all of these top chefs, and it may seem pricey for the dinners at these places but I think they are worth every penny. I love this notion of striving for perfection.

And my favourite contender, Dhruv Baker has just won, I am so very, very pleased for him, superb.

3 things, take them with you – regale, delight and enthrall!

Where have I been lately?  Well I went to La Gavroche (thank you so, so much Mr!) – totally amazing and a new contender for my best restaurant in the UK (world actually), also went to Corrigans in Mayfair and had a schnitzel off a food stall on Portobello market, see how versatile I am?  I will be in so much in trouble for that! (sorry mum and all my teachers)  Oh and a couple of restaurants that I went to with some friends that were ok but not worth a mention.

Do you remember me enthusing about the foodie market that happened in Plymouth once a year?  Well, they happen every week here in London.  Yes!!  Ive been to Pimlico market and Borough Market and all manner of fab deli’s. If ever there was an opportunity to be greedy, it is here.  Off to the gym then. x
